Burlap Wedding Style Shoot at The Barn at Walnut Hill

Emily Carter of Emily Carter Floral Designs came to me last winter with an idea to use Burlap on a Style Shoot. We did this shoot last spring at the Barn at Walnut Hill in N. Yarmouth Maine. I chose these particular models for the barn shoot, to explore the concept of old from designer Emily Carter (burlap, barn, hay bails, tin ceiling plates as chargers) with new, the modern wedding as designed around personal expression and the modern acceptance of interracial marriage. I designed and made the dress from Burlap using elements of dresses at weddings. Shoes are from Betsey Johnson, grooms attire is from Banana Republic and Clarks.

The pure simplicity of burlap mixed with the complexity of how it can be used, as well as other basic materials such as sheet metal and wood, is what inspired this shoot.  Combining the above with vibrant seasonal flowers that create a beautiful organic texture as well as other details such as mossed wrapped votives, Luxe ribbon flowers, vintage silver pieces and the clean lines of succulents plays further on the yin and yang of simple elements that can be used within a more complex and involved design sense.  Emily with Emily Carter Floral Designs incorporated tree peonies, viburnum, David Austin roses, craspedia balls, sweet peas, and pin cushion protea in tones of coral, peach, green, yellow and pink with accents of scabiosa pods, chocolate fiddleheads and pieris to create these floral designs throughout this shoot.  Fine details of design such as the hand made metal flowers detailed with craspedia ball centers within the custom burlap backdrop for the ceremony further enhance the design and picked up on the light streaming through the barn.
