Dylan & Kyung Sun were married in Northport Maine, not far from Belfast. Dylan was my very first boyfriend, form high school. In fact our first date in Maine, was in Belfast, to a ballett class actually! Oh that was a long long time ago. Since then I followed 2 years behind in Dylan's foots steps to Walnut Hill School for the Arts (Natick, MA). Saw him occasionally in Maine when he came to visit his mom, Lisa. Saw him in NYC when I was living there and his dance company came to NY for a performance. Ok fast forward to the wedding. There is an image I took of Kyung Sun walking with her sister and mother down to where I requested family photos. Dylan told me they were discussing how strange it was, her (new) husbands old girlfriend was photographing the wedding. Apparently in Korea, ex's are no longer on the radar screen never mind a part of a future wedding. I smiled. Oh well. This is liberal minded out of the box mid coast Maine. If I was not there, I am not sure they would have had much photographic documentation, and if I was not so good with the camera, maybe I too, would not have been included to the ceremony. The reception, probably. The ceremony incorporated Korean elements, and elements that we from Quaker (I think) beliefs and then some that Kyung Sun and Dylan created and wanted.
If you notice the last two images, I had Kyung Sun stand on a rock, she seemed like she needed a pedestal. Well, Dylan was not so sure, he wanted her being taller than him. The second frame is actually reversed, he hopped up on the rock too.
I did have one moment of nostalgia. And that was when Dylan was asked by the band to join them and sing Van Morrison's MoonDance song. I remember him singing that, I think on our first date, when he came to see me at in Waltham while I was visiting my older sister at Brandeis. That was when I remember thinking, ooh cool I like this guy and I think he likes me too! A 20 + year old memory.
If you are wondering what some of the images of Dylan & Kyung Sun dancing / body movements are all about, during the ceremony and reception, they do have a company Uzazu (the language of energy). It is rather interesting! They are relocating to Portland Maine, I look forward to taking their workshop and meeting their new daughter.
